Grand Theft Auto 6 is delayed once again, as it was rumoured and anxious fans anticipated. Rockstar Games declared in the early hours of Friday that the release of GTA 6 has been deferred by half a year to November 2026. Its open-world crime title was to be released on current-generation consoles on May 26, 2026; the highly-hyped game is now being released on November 19, 2026.
In its release, Rockstar took blame for the second delay of GTA 6, though the company noted that the extra time was necessary to give the game the kind of polish that it would have had in a studio.
The studio announced on its own webpage that it will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on Thursday, November 19, 2026. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience.”

What GTA 6 Delay Means
The second delay now moves the GTA 6 waiting time out to six months, should there be no other delay. Grand Theft Auto 6 is no doubt the much-hyped game in the history of the genre, with gamers all over the world anticipating the game for over ten years since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013. When GTA 6 is released, it will break all the barriers of the industry. The game is actually projected to be the largest entertainment introduction ever. This latest GTA6 delay has left most fans disappointed yet still hopeful of getting a better endgame.
Grand Theft Auto 6 was announced in December 2023, and its first trailer caused a meltdown on the internet. This was announced in the first trailer, which has since been watched more than 268 million times on YouTube, that the game would be released in 2025, though no specific date has been determined.
Take-Two Interactive, which is the parent company of Rockstar, had already indicated in its financial statements that GTA 6 would be released in the fall of 2025. But in May of this year, Rockstar postponed the release of GTA 6 to 2026 and confirmed an absolute date: May 26, 2026. A few days later, the studio published an all-time high second trailer of GTA 6, which revealed the second trailer of the game, Jason, and the Vice City world. The views of that trailer have surpassed 137 million views on YouTube.
At this point, following the second delay that places the game on course to release on November 19, 2026, it might not be too far-fetched that Rockstar Games releases a new trailer, possibly depicting GTA 6 gameplay.
The second delay is also a cause of alarm to the video game industry at large, which will probably disrupt scheduled launch dates of games from other publishers and creators. GTA 6 is a meteor, and any game that is caught in the blast range will be a victim. Perhaps the second largest gaming release of 2026, Marvel’s Wolverine, is the one that is going to be affected the most in the short term.

Insomniac Games and Sony unveiled a new trailer of Wolverine in September, and it was announced that the superhero action-adventure game would launch in the fall of 2026. The release of GTA 6 nowadays coincides with the release of Marvel Wolverine, which might be postponed until 2027 (the game is not likely to be released later in 2026).
In an advertisement in March this year, Rockstar Games stated that GTA 6 will have the largest game release in history. That launch has now been made even more tardy. Grand Theft Auto 6 is released on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on November 19, 2026.
